DANIEL Miocevich is no stranger to the sport of drag racing.
His father Gary Miocevich was one of the men responsible for building Perth Motorplex.
Gary passed away in 2015 but perhaps on April 8, Gary’s birthday, he was looking out for his son.
Daniel has followed his father’s passion for jet-powered drag racing and was racing his jet dragster, named ‘Aftershock’ at the WA Drag Racing Grand Final.

Isis has killed dozens of civilians attempting to flee the remaining parts of Mosul under its control, hanging their bodies from electricity poles as a gruesome warning to others. One man said he had found a relative’s mutilated body displaced in the Iraqi city’s Tenek district alongside three others who were caught trying to escape. “Their appearance was shocking,” he told Reuters. “We weren’t able to get them down and they have been there for two days.”
The punishment has previously been used for alleged “spies” and defectors across Isis territory, where mock crucifixions have become a common sight.
Another resident of the Old City’s Shahwan district said a family of six, including an elderly woman, had also been murdered by jihadis.
POLICE and military officers shot dead six suspected members of an Islamic militant group in Indonesia, after a failed drive-by shooting targeting police officers in East Java.
Indonesia has the world’s largest Muslim population and has been on high alert over a recent resurgence in radicalism inspired by the extremist group Islamic State.
After a police chase the six abandoned their vehicle in a village in the Tuban area, not far from the industrial city of Surabaya, and attempted to flee into a plantation where they were all killed in a second gunbattle with police, East Java Police spokesman Frans Barung Mangera said on Saturday.
Police were monitoring the vehicle prior to the attack, he said, in connection with the Friday arrest of three suspected members of the group, Jemaah Anshorut Daulah (JAD), who were allegedly planning an attack on a police station and had bought M16 machine guns from the southern Philippines.
“We tried to stop that vehicle, but the vehicle did not stop,” Mangera said, adding that those in the vehicle “took out weapons and shot at officers”.
Indonesia has had some major successes tackling militancy inspired by al-Qaeda’s attacks on the United States in 2001. But there has been a resurgence of Islamist activity in recent years, some of it linked to the rise of Islamic State.

British actor Tim Pigott-Smith has died at the age of 70, his agent has said. The stage and screen star, who appeared in blockbusters including Quantum of Solace and Alice in Wonderland, was perhaps best known for his role in the 1984 mini series The Jewel in the Crown. He performed both in the West End and Broadway and received an OBE for services to drama last month.
A statement from agent John Grant said: “It is with deep regret that I have to announce the sad news that Tim Pigott-Smith died this morning.
“Tim was one of the great actors of his generation. Much-loved and admired by his peers, he will be remembered by many as a gentleman and a true friend.
“He will be much missed. We ask that you respect the privacy of his wife, the actress Pamela Miles, his son Tom and the family.”
With a career spanning almost 50 years, his first TV role came in the 1971 TV movie Boswell’s Life of Johnson.
He played roles in early series of Doctor Who, and appeared in recent dramas including Downton Abbey and Silent Witness.

New airstrikes target Syrian town hit by chemical attack
New airstrikes targeted a town in Syria that was hit by a chemical attack earlier this week, activists said, less than a day after the US bombarded a Syrian air base to “send a message” to the Assad regime.

Iodine has been added to salt since 1924.
Salt isn’t just a seasoning anymore, and the popularity of Salt Bae ― the hunky chef who salts his food with bravado ― is proof of that.
Iodine deficiency can lead to more than just goiter. According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, iodine deficiency is the leading cause of preventable mental retardation in the world today. In fact, it was found that iodization actually raises IQ levels.
Now, there’s one reason you can feel good about adding a little more salt to your dinner (but not too much, because that’s not good for you either).
Then there’s Himalayan pink salt, flaky sea salt and kosher salt that remind us we’re in a new era of cooking. But despite the plethora of gourmet salt options on the market, many households will still carry and use regular old table salt, which in many parts of the world is iodized. But why is our common table salt iodized, anyway?
Salt is iodized in large part to prevent goiter. A goiter is an enlarged thyroid, and one of the causes is iodine deficiency (the thyroid enlarges to try to get more iodine).
Iodine is a mineral component of the hormone thyroxin, which is responsible for maintaining a person’s metabolic rate. Iodine isn’t synthesized in our bodies, so we must get it from food. It’s found naturally in seafood and from foods produced on land that was once under the sea.
According to the National Institutes of Health, Goiter had become endemic in the 1920s in certain regions of the United States ― the Great Lakes, Appalachians and Northwestern regions were nicknamed the goiter belt because of this. As a solution to introduce more iodine into the diets of people who lived inland or at high elevations, where iodine is not naturally present, the United States started fortifying salt with iodine. The goiter problem was gone almost overnight.
Just 1/4 teaspoon of iodize salt satisfies 47 percent of the Recommended Daily Value, containing 71 mcg per serving.

Norwegian police have found a “bomb-like device” in central Oslo, and a suspect is being held in custody, the police said on their official Twitter account on Saturday.
A Reuters reporter at the scene said a large area had been cordoned off and that the perimeter was being expanded.
“For safety reasons, you must immediately move further away,” a policeman told reporters as Oslo’s bomb squad was preparing to enter the area.
“It seems like this device only has potential for causing limited damage … we’re now awaiting further necessary investigations,” the police tweeted.
Shortly later the police detonated the device.
“The noise from the blast was louder than our explosives themselves would cause,” a police spokesman said, while adding that further investigation would be conducted at the scene.

The sky is blue, the grass is green, and Winx just won her 17th straight thoroughbred horse race. Because of course she did.
But the biggest and most unexpected story of the final day of The Championships at Randwick was the awful turn of events in the Sydney Cup, which was abandoned mid-race after two horses fell and were deemed to be impeding the progress of the field.

A police officer has been hit in the head and another officer kicked by a teenage girl as riot police tried to shut down a huge party in Sydney’s northwest.
Police were called to the party at Oxford Street in Epping at about 10.20pm on Saturday night.
Around 200 people were inside the party with many of them drunk, when they were asked to move on due to safety concerns, according to police.
An officer was struck in the back of the head after breaking up a fight.
A 16-year-old girl was taken to Ryde Police Station for allegedly kicking an officer, using offensive language and resisting arrest, but has since been released pending further inquiries.

One For Arthur provided trainer Lucinda Russell and jockey Derek Fox with a famous success on Saturday as 19 of the 40 runners completed the course. Find out where your horse finished.
Scotland’s long wait for a second Randox Health Grand National winner is over after One For Arthur provided trainer Lucinda Russell and jockey Derek Fox with a famous success on Saturday.
Russell, ably assisted by former champion jockey Peter Scudamore at her Kinross base, finally laid the ghost to rest after a long wait since Rubstic’s win in 1979.
Scudamore, champion eight times in his career, famously never won the National but will take nearly as much pleasure out of this victory at Aintree than many of his in the saddle.
This year 19 of the 40 runners completed the course. Find out where your horse finished.

Things are hotting up in the Court of the Sun King.
Right from the start, the BBC drama Versailles caused controversy with its X-rated depiction of shameless bed-hopping by Louis XIV and his courtiers.
But now, as the show returns, it’s being slammed as ‘pornography’ for scenes more explicit than ever before – including a five-in- a-bed sex scene.
The shocking moment shows an all-male orgy in which the king’s brother Philippe, Duke of Orleans, is joined by his lover the Chevalier de Lorraine and three courtiers, all nude.
Elsewhere the king, played by British actor George Blagden, is seen dallying naked with his mistress, Madame de Montespan (fellow British star Anna Brewster).
Even the trailer for the show doesn’t pull any punches, featuring male and female nudity, and the Sun King inviting viewers to a court dominated by ‘corruption’, ‘darkness’, ‘temptation’ and ‘murder’.
Critics have accused the BBC of pandering to the lowest common denominator and being irresponsible in showing the French series at prime time, starting on BBC2 at 9.30pm on Friday, April 21.
