Child thrown from ‘The Wave’ water park slide on opening day

DUBLIN >> The much-anticipated debut of the $43 million water park “The Wave” took a scary turn Saturday when a boy was launched from a three-story water slide, landing on the concrete exit next to the ride.

The 10-year-old boy was “just shaken up” with a scratched shoulder that was treated by first aid, a park spokeswoman said shortly after the incident witnessed and recorded by a Bay Area News Group photographer covering the Dublin park’s grand opening. The photographer saw scratches on the boy’s back, before he walked away on his own power and was helped by a lifeguard and city employee shortly after noon Saturday. The ride had only been operating for 90 minutes…

Southern rock music pioneer Gregg Allman dead at 69

Gregg Allman, whose soulful vocals made the Allman Brothers Band one of rock’s top acts in the 1970s with songs such as “Whipping Post,” in a career also marred by tragedy and drug abuse, died on Saturday at the age of 69, his official website said.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce that Gregg Allman, a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band, passed away peacefully at his home in Savannah, Georgia,” it said.

Drummer Butch Trucks, another founding member of the band, died aged 60 on Jan. 24.

The Allman Brothers Band was started in Macon, Georgia, in the late 1960s by Gregg and older brother Duane, who became the band’s guiding force and one of rock’s most revered guitarists before he was killed in a motorcycle accident at age 24. In its heyday, the band was a staple on radio stations and released albums ranked among the best in rock history.

#F1 Monaco An unusually angry Daniel Ricciardo lashes out at Red Bull “stupid” and “silly”

An unusually angry Daniel Ricciardo has hit out at a “stupid” and “silly” strategic error by his Red Bull team in qualifying for the Monaco GP.

A year on from taking pole in Monte Carlo, Ricciardo will start this Sunday’s race from fifth after the team opted to only make one flying run in Saturday’s top-10 shootout.

And an unhappy Ricciardo has hit out at Red Bull after his lap was disrupted by traffic.

“To go with that strategy we knew we had to go hard on our out lap, to work the tyres hard, to push and create temperature,” Ricciardo told Sky Sports F1.

“On my out-lap we came out in traffic and it seemed that we had a clear track behind so l don’t know why we didn’t wait and put me in clear air.

“Unless the timer was going down and we weren’t going to make it out of the pits, which l don’t think was the case, it just seemed that we made a stupid, silly error.

“From the car it seemed obvious. Maybe I am missing something but it seemed an obvious and basic mistake.”

White House shaken as FBI’s Russia probe pierces Trump’s inner circle

Allegations that Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner sought a secret communication line to Moscow raise new questions about the president’s relationship with Russia.

The probe into Russia’s role in the US election pierced the innermost circle of the White House Saturday, with reports that Donald Trump’s son-in-law sought a secret communications line with Moscow – the most damning allegation yet from the scandal.

The latest furor was stirred up after the Washington Post reported late Friday that Jared Kushner – arguably Trump’s closest White House aide, and husband to the president’s eldest daughter Ivanka – made a pre-inauguration proposal to the Russian ambassador to set up a secret, bug-proof link with the Kremlin.

Kushner, 36, even suggested using Russian diplomatic facilities in the United States to protect such a channel from monitoring, The Post said, quoting US officials briefed on intelligence reports.

FBI ‘warned MI5 Manchester bomber was planning an attack’

FBI ‘warned MI5 Manchester bomber was planning an attack’

  • The FBI told MI5 that Abedi was planning an attack in Britain in January this year
  • But they thought he might be planning to assassinate a key political figure
  • MI5 investigated but ‘nothing came of it’ and he slipped down the pecking order
  • It will pile more pressure on MI5 to reveal when and how they knew of Abedi

UK security chiefs were warned in January that Salman Abedi was planning an attack in Britain, it was claimed last night.

According to a security source, the FBI told MI5 that Abedi was part of a North African Islamic State cell plotting to strike a political target in the UK.

The information came from a US investigation into Abedi and his links to terrorist groups in Libya. The Mail on Sunday has also been told that US security services put him on a terror watch list – used by agents to identify key suspects – in 2016.
