Three plead guilty to plotting terrorist attack on government buildings in Sydney
Two men and a teenager have pleaded guilty to plotting a terrorist attack on government buildings in Sydney.
Jibryl Almaouie, 23, and Sulayman Khalid, 22, pleaded guilty on Monday at a Supreme Court matter heard in Parramatta to planning an act of terror in late 2014.
Another person under 18, who cannot be named, also pleaded guilty to the plan.
The plot centred on carrying out attacks on government buildings, including police headquarters, with firearms.
Almaouie, Khalid and the teen are among six involved in the plot – with the other three having pleaded guilty earlier this year.

ATO staffer’s how-to guide to hack phones, turned off and the SIM card isn’t inside
Labor leader Bill Shorten has described the leaking of a guide to hack mobile phones by a public servant as a “very serious matter.”
The Australian Tax Office staffer published instructions to bypass phone passwords and obtain data on the social networking site LinkedIn, the ABC reports.
The instructions would allow hacking of the phone even if its battery was flat or it didn’t have a SIM card.
“We need to get briefings and find out what has gone on here,” Mr Shorten told reporters in South Australia on Wednesday.
“Obviously it is a very serious matter.”
The staffer involved has since been disciplined but the ABC reports the company cited in the hacking guide is the same one that reportedly helped the FBI break into the San Bernardino shooter’s iPhone, Cellebrite.
Tenders show the Australian Federal Police paid the company $160,000 for the supply of a software annual license.
It also shows the ATO paid the firm $42,000 for an analyst to train staff on the software in Melbourne.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is pushing for legislation to allow encrypted messages on phones to be obtained.
The ATO has been contacted for comment.

G20: Trump cut an ‘uneasy, lonely, awkward figure’ among other leaders viral take-down
ABC’s political editor Chris Uhlmann didn’t pull any punches when he delivered his wrap-up of Trump’s appearance at the conference, calling him an “uneasy, lonely, awkward figure” who was left “isolated and friendless” with “no desire and no capacity to lead the world”.
“He has a particular skill set: he’s identified an illness in Western democracies, but he has no cure for it and seems intent on exploiting it,” the veteran journalist said.
And according to Uhlmann, we all need to give up on any hope that the speeches written for Trump and delivered by the man himself are any reflection of his true thoughts.
“It’s the unscripted Trump that’s real: a man who barks out bile in 140 characters, who wastes his precious days as President at war with the West’s institutions like the judiciary, independent government agencies, and the free press.”
Uhlmann also pointed out that given the uncomfortable divide between himself and the most of the other G20 leaders on the Paris Climate Accord, a “deft” President would have found a topic with which to rally them.
“And he had the perfect one: North Korea’s missile tests,” the reporter explained.
“Other leaders expected it [a statement condemning it], they were prepared to back it, but it never came.”
At the end of the two minute video, Uhlmann provided a chilling prediction for the future under this US President.
“Donald Trump has pressed fast forward on the decline of the United States as a global leader. Some will cheer the decline of America, but I think we’ll miss it when it’s gone — and that’s the biggest threat to the values of the West, which he claims to hold so dear.”

U.S. senators seek military ban on Kaspersky Lab products amid FBI probe
U.S. senators sought on Wednesday to ban Moscow-based cyber security firm Kaspersky Lab’s products from use by the military because of fears the company is vulnerable to “Russian government influence,” a day after the FBI interviewed several of its U.S. employees as part of a probe into its operations.
Federal Bureau of Investigation agents visited the homes of Kaspersky employees late on Tuesday in multiple U.S. cities, although no search warrants were served, according to two sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the FBI probe.
Kaspersky Lab confirmed in a statement on Wednesday that FBI agents have had “brief interactions” with some of its U.S. employees, discussions that the company described as “due diligence” chats. The FBI declined to comment.
The interviews were followed on Wednesday by the release of a defense spending policy bill passed by the Senate Armed Services Committee, which would prohibit the U.S. Defense Department from using Kaspersky software platforms because the company “might be vulnerable to Russian government influence,” according to a summary of the legislation.
Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen, who amended the spending bill to include the Kaspersky language, said in a statement that “ties between Kaspersky Lab and the Kremlin are very alarming.”
A consensus in Congress and among Trump administration officials believed Kaspersky “cannot be trusted to protect critical infrastructure, particularly computer systems vital to our nation’s security,” Shaheen said.
The bill would need to pass the full Senate and House of Representatives and be signed by President Donald Trump in order to become law…

Manchester Ariana Grande attack: bomber’s chilling back-up plan
STARTLING new evidence suggests suicide bomber Salman Abedi had an accomplice lurking nearby to trigger the explosives remotely if he tried to bail out at the last minute.
Experts said to have examined the detonator switch found near Abedi’s body at the scene of the deadly Manchester attack revealed it contained special circuitry.
It’s the existence of that circuit board that suggests the nail-packed explosive could be operated remotely by someone else.
If the nail bomb was designed to be manually detonated, such technology would be unnecessary.
That backs-up the police’s theory that he was part of a highly-organised terror cell linked to Islamic State, which contained a specialist bomb maker.
There are fears that whoever made the Manchester Arena bomb — which killed 22 and left more than 100 injured — is now on the run and could carry out more attacks.
A police source said: “They don’t waste bomb makers. The reason we have gone to critical is because he is still out there and the fear is that he will strike again before they get caught.”
Authorities believe it is highly unlikely the 22-year-old college dropout made the sophisticated explosive device himself.
Those that studied the switch said the circuit board could either have been used as a timer or intended as a failsafe allowing an accomplice to trigger the bomb if Abedi didn’t.
The chilling revelation comes a day after photos were released showing the nail bomb the terrorist used in the massacre.

I think Putin pays Trump, says House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy
The Washington Post reports House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, one of Trump’s closest allies in Congress, made the allegation in a private conversation on Capitol Hill with fellow GOP leaders.
“There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump,” McCarthy reportedly said, according to a recording of the June 15, 2016, exchange, which was allegedly listened to and verified by The Washington Post. Dana Rohrabacher is a Californian Republican known in Congress as a fervent defender of Putin and Russia.
TRUMP: ‘No politician has been treated worse’
House Speaker Paul Ryan then interjected, stopping the conversation from further exploring McCarthy’s assertion, and swore the Republicans in the room to secrecy, according to the Post.
Ryan allegedly instructed Republicans to keep the conversation private, saying: “No leaks … This is how we know we’re a real family here.”
Before the conversation occurred, McCarthy and Ryan had emerged from separate talks at the US Capitol with Ukrainian Prime Minister Vladimir Groysman, who had reportedly described a Kremlin tactic of financing populist politicians to undercut Eastern European democratic institutions.
FEDERAL PROBE: Wall Street tumbles amid Trump turmoil
McCarthy’s reported comments were revealed after the US Justice Department appointed former FBI director Robert Mueller as a special counsel to oversee a federal probe into the Trump administration’s alleged links to Russia.
The appointment today came amid a growing Democratic outcry for someone outside the Justice Department to handle the politically charged investigation.
President Trump issued a statement about the federal probe saying he was being treated ‘unfairly’.
In the statement the US President said he wanted a swift end to the federal investigation into potential co-ordination between the Kremlin and the Trump campaign during the 2016 presidential election.
“As I have stated many times, a thorough investigation will confirm what we already know — there was no collusion between my campaign and any foreign entity,” Trump said in the statement.
“I look forward to this matter concluding quickly.
“In the meantime, I will never stop fighting for the people and the issues that matter most to the future of our country.”

THAILAND has threatened to sue Facebook – after a footage of its heavily-tattooed king strolling around in a crop top emerged.
The bizarre clip of King Maha Vajiralongkorn waltzing around a shopping centre alongside a woman has gone viral.
And furious top brass in the South East Asian nation now want the clip taken offline by 10am tomorrow.
Thai residents can be jailed for 15 years for insulting the country’s monarch.
Takorn Tantasith, head of Thailand’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, said: “If even a single illicit page remains, we will immediately discuss what legal steps to take against Facebook Thailand.”
Internet chiefs in the country are reported by the Bangkok Post to have emailed Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg personally asking him to remove the clip.
And despite attempts to block Thais viewing the video, more than 300 versions are believed to be floating around social media.
It is not the first time the monarch has been spotted in such attire.
In October he was snapped at a Munich airport wearing a rolled-up tank top, sagging jeans and fake tattoos with a poodle in tow.
King Vajiralongkorn was crowned in December at the age of 64.
He succeeded his father King Bhumibol Adulyadej who died last year at the age of 88 after spending 70 years on the throne.

US anti-missile system ‘operational’ in South Korea
The US military says its controversial Thaad missile defence system is “operational” in South Korea.
But officials have told reporters that full operational capability is still some months away.
Tensions have been rising around the Korean peninsula, with repeated threats from North Korea and the presence of a group of US warships and a submarine.

Thaad, which stands for Terminal High Altitude Area Defence, was installed last week at a former golf course in the central county of Seongju, amid angry protests.
Many locals believe the system is a potential target for attacks and endangers the lives of those living nearby.
China has also protested – it believes the system’s radar range could interfere with the security of own military operations.
A spokesman for the US forces based in South Korea said Thaad was now “operational and has the ability to intercept North Korean missiles and defend the Republic of Korea”.
But a US defence official told AFP news agency that the system currently only has “initial intercept capability” which would be beefed up later this year as more parts of the system arrive.

And Sophie Monk has opened up about her old flames ahead of filming, in a candid new interview.
The 37-year-old spoke to The Kyle And Jackie O Show on Monday about her celebrity conquests in a game called Banged Or Haven’t Banged.
Kyle and Jackie read out a long list of famous names and Sophie had to reveal whether or not she had been intimate with them.
She tried to wiggle out of the game asking the hosts: ‘Can’t I say I’ve dated them?’
But Kyle justified the reason for the saucy game saying: ‘Doesn’t matter whether you’ve dated them, this is a fast track for guys so they don’t get surprised on the show.’
The extensive list included names such as actor Jude Law, current President Donald Trump, Charlie Sheen, Kanye West, Ryan Seacrest, her former radio co-host Jules Lund and the host of The Bachelor and Bachelorette Osher Günsberg – all of who she did not sleep with.
However she did admit to having slept with Kevin Connolly from Entourage, actor Sam Worthington, who is now married to Lara Bingle, and British action star Jason Statham, who is expecting his first child with fiancée Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
Kyle then threw in a red herring and asked if she had slept with her former radio co-host Mel B and Stephen Belafonte to the laughs the studio.

Emergency responders rescued 24 people stuck on a stalled roller coaster at Six Flags America in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, fire officials said Thursday.
Prince George‘s County Fire and EMS Department Chief Spokesperson Mark Brady said the last riders were brought down shortly after 9 p.m.

The X-Men go X-rated: New superhero film is grisly and gory with lots of swearing, but Hugh Jackman as an ageing, alcoholic Wolverine..
To give an indication of how raddled Hugh Jackman looks at the start of his valedictory outing as Wolverine, the mutant superhero with retractable claws and intractable melancholia, he could easily pass for Mel Gibson after a really heavy night out.
That’s the first sign that this will be an X-Men film like no other. And so it proves, but mostly in a good way.
I should add that there is grislier, more graphic violence than usual, not to mention an awful lot of effing and blinding, making it more like an XXXX-Men film.
