Lovers jailed over cyanide juice poisoning murder of Melbourne man Sam Abraham
A FORBIDDEN love drove a Melbourne wife and her lover to fatally poison her husband in his bed using cyanide-laced orange juice.Sofia Sam, 34, and Arun Kamalasanan, 36, have been jailed for more than 20 years each for murdering Sam Abraham.Mr Abraham, 33, was killed at his Epping family home in October 2015 by his wife and her then-lover Kamalasanan.
The pair were brought to justice on Thursday by a Supreme Court judge who jailed Kamalasanan, deemed the “architect” of the poison plot, for 27 years and Sam for 22 years.“Sam Abraham was a young man asleep in bed at home with his family when he was killed by the use of poison,” Justice Paul Coghlan said at sentence.“I am satisfied that the poison was chosen as your murder weapon in an attempt to avoid detection.” The judge said Sam’s young son was one of the most significant victims of the murder as he will grow up with no father and his mother in jail.

Natalie Joyce, the former partner of Nationals MP Barnaby Joyce, has spoken for the first time since the former deputy prime minister’s affair with his staffer became public.Ms Joyce told Women’s Weekly she had to resist “throwing a brick at the TV” as she watched Mr Joyce’s interview with Channel Seven earlier this month, for which he was reportedly paid $150,000. She questioned whether the money should have been paid into a trust fund for Mr Joyce and staffer Vikki Campion’s son.
The unravelling of Barnaby JoyceHere’s the story of how the former Nationals leader brought himself undone.”It begs the question, if Barney agreed to be a part of it, how could he allow his four girls to be overlooked? In saying that, I wouldn’t want a cent of that money,” she said.Women’s Weekly reported the interview was unpaid, and Ms Joyce accepted it before the controversial Channel Seven interview as an opportunity to be heard.
