Queanbeyan terror rampage: Victim took extra shift on the night fatally stabbed

The victim of a brutal stabbing at a Queanbeyan service station wasn’t supposed to be working the night he was killed.

Zeeshan Akbar, 29, was working an extra shift at Caltex so he could send money to his family when he was fatally stabbed just before midnight on Thursday.

Mr Akbar, who also worked at Canberra airport, sent most of his earnings to his family in Karachi, Pakistan, The Daily Telegraph reported.

He was just minutes from the end of his shift when he was stabbed, according to Seven News.

Mr Akbar had moved to Canberra, about 15km from Queanbeyan, at the end of 2016 for a state nominated visa.

‘He was close to his permanent residence,’ one of his close friends Nabeel Akhtar told Daily Mail Australia.
