Richard Branson’s Island, Necker, Destroyed By #Irma
Necker, Richard Branson’s private Caribbean island, has been “completely and utterly devastated” by Hurricane Irma, which passed over the British Virgin Islands with winds of up to 110 miles per hour.
The English business magnate wrote a blog post for Virgin on his satellite phone, saying he had “never seen anything like” Hurricane Irma and added that it was a “traumatic time” on the island. Branson explained that while the extent of the damage still needed to be assessed, “whole houses and trees have disappeared” and “bathroom and bedroom doors and windows have flown 40 feet away.”

Cassini Spacecraft Prepares To End Mission With Dive Into Saturn’s Atmosphere + V/CLIP;
The U.S. space agency’s Cassini spacecraft will end its 13-year mission to Saturn in mid-September by transmitting data until the final moment before it plunges into the ringed planet’s atmosphere, officials said on Tuesday.
Cassini, the first spacecraft to orbit Saturn, will make the last of 22 farewell dives between the planet’s rings and surface on September 15. The spacecraft will then burn up as it heads straight into the gas giant’s crushing atmosphere.
Cassini’s final dive will end a mission that provided groundbreaking discoveries that included seasonal changes on Saturn, the moon Titan’s resemblance to a primordial Earth, and a global ocean on the moon Enceladus with ice plumes spouting from its surface.
“The mission has been insanely, wildly, beautifully successful, and it’s coming to an end in about two weeks,” Curt Niebur, Cassini program scientist, said on a telephone conference call with reporters from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California.
Cassini’s final photo as it heads into Saturn’s atmosphere will likely be of propellers, or gaps in the rings caused by moonlets, said project scientist Linda Spilker.
The spacecraft will provide near real-time data on the atmosphere until it loses contact with Earth at 9.45pm AEST (1154 GMT) on September 15, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) said.

New Bill Would Require Donald Trump To Undergo Mental Health Evaluation!
A new bill introduced in the House of Representatives would require President Donald Trump to undergo a physical and mental health exam to determine if he is stable enough to stay in office.
Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) introduced the bill on Friday. Should the results of the said exam be unfavorable, the bill calls for Vice President Mike Pence and members of the Cabinet to remove Trump from office.
The move would invoke the 25th Amendment, a rarely-used constitutional provision that allows the vice president and a majority of Cabinet members to jointly remove the president from office and replace him with the vice president.
“Does the President suffer from early stage dementia,” Lofgren asked in a statement announcing the bill.
“Has emotional disorder so impaired the President that he is unable to discharge his duties,” she continued. “Is the President mentally and emotionally stable?”
Lofgren pointed out that Trump has not yet released a “serious” medical evaluation to the public.

Train derails in India killing about 20 people and injuring scores more
A train has come off the tracks in northern India killing about 20 people and injuring scores more, as carriages slammed into each other.
Rescuers and local people worked into the night searching for survivors in the overturned and mangled carriages, some piled on top of each other.
The death toll in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh was expected to rise, officials said.
At least eight carriages derailed in the crash close to Muzaffarnagar, about 130 kilometres north of the capital New Delhi, as the train travelled towards the Hindu holy city of Haridwar, police said.
Train crashes are frequent in India, which has the world’s fourth-largest rail network.
Poor investment in past decades in the vast network and rising demand means overcrowded trains are running on creaking infrastructure.
Saturday’s accident is at least the fourth major passenger train derailment this year and the third in Uttar Pradesh in 2017.

Heather Heyer ‘Murdered While Protesting Against Hate’ In Charlottesville, Friends Say
The woman who was killed in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Saturday when a car plowed into a group of anti-racist demonstrators was a 32-year-old paralegal who was passionate about social justice.
Heather Heyer’s mother, Susan Bro, told HuffPost that her daughter attended Saturday’s rally because she “was about bringing an end to injustice.”
“Heather was not about hate, Heather was about stopping hatred,” Bro said through tears. “Heather was about bringing an end to injustice. I don’t want her death to be a focus for more hatred, I want her death to be a rallying cry for justice and equality and fairness and compassion.”
According to The Associated Press, Heyer was struck as she was crossing the street. At least 19 others were injured in the crash, some critically, said police.
20-year-old James Fields Jr. was arrested over the incident and charged with murder. Fields was one of thousands of members of the so-called “alt right” who were in Charlottesville attending Saturday’s “Unite The Right” march. The rally became violent after the white supremacists were confronted by anti-fascist groups.

Giant iceberg breaks away from ice shelf in Antarctica
One of the biggest icebergs on record has broken away from Antarctica, scientists have said, creating an extra hazard for ships around the continent as it breaks up.
The 1-trillion-tonne iceberg, measuring 5,800 square kilometres, calved away from the Larsen C ice shelf in Antarctica sometime between July 10 and 12, scientists at the University of Swansea and the British Antarctic Survey said.
The iceberg has been close to breaking off for a few months. Throughout the Antarctic winter, scientists monitored the progress of the rift in the ice shelf using the European Space Agency satellites.
“The iceberg is one of the largest recorded and its future progress is difficult to predict,” said Adrian Luckman, professor at Swansea University and lead investigator of Project MIDAS, which has been monitoring the ice shelf for years.
“It may remain in one piece but is more likely to break into fragments. Some of the ice may remain in the area for decades, while parts of the iceberg may drift north into warmer waters,” he added.
