Isis kills dozens of civilians caught fleeing Mosul – hang bodies up on electricity poles

mosul-iraq.jpgIsis has killed dozens of civilians attempting to flee the remaining parts of Mosul under its control, hanging their bodies from electricity poles as a gruesome warning to others. One man said he had found a relative’s mutilated body displaced in the Iraqi city’s Tenek district alongside three others who were caught trying to escape. “Their appearance was shocking,” he told Reuters. “We weren’t able to get them down and they have been there for two days.”

The punishment has previously been used for alleged “spies” and defectors across Isis territory, where mock crucifixions have become a common sight.

Another resident of the Old City’s Shahwan district said a family of six, including an elderly woman, had also been murdered by jihadis.
