Rockhampton braces for worst flooding in 60 years

Expected peak flood levels in the central Queensland city of Rockhampton are revised down, with the Fitzroy River only expected to reach 9 metres on Wednesday.

It is down from the earlier predicted peak of 9.4m, which would have been the region’s worst flooding since 1954.

The revised level is just under the 2011 flood peak.

The deluge is moving downstream, after remnants of ex-Cyclone Debbie dropped record-breaking rain throughout central and north Queensland.

Residents have been urged to prepare early, with the river expected to reach the major flood level of 8.5 metres later today as water from further up in the catchment moves towards the coast…
