Hundreds of shoppers were evacuated from Westfield Parramatta in Sydney’s west after a small fire in a stairwell.
Fire & Rescue NSW was notified at about 1.40pm on Tuesday by an automatic alarm after smoke was seen on two levels, a spokeswoman said, with six crews racing to the mall.
About 250 people were forced out into the rainy streets while firefighters located and extinguished the small blaze.
Shoppers were able to return about an hour later after the area was ventilated and smoke cleared, Fire & Rescue confirmed.
