Armed robber takes two hostages at German bank

The standoff is taking place at the Sparkasse bank in the old industrial city of Duisburg, near to the Dutch border.

Armed police have arrested two men near a besieged bank in Germany after two people – believed to be staff – were taken hostage this morning.

One of the hostages, a woman, has been freed after being holded up in the premises for more than two hours.

A gunman who held up the bank in the old industrial city of Duisburg is still holding one male employee.

It is reported that the two arrested men were accomplices of the remaining robber, although police have not commented.

Officers were called at 8.40am, and the woman was freed shortly after 11am.
