AUSTRALIAN sport’s leading commentator Bruce McAvaney has revealed he is fighting cancer.
The 63-year-old Channel Seven broadcaster opened up about his battle with leukaemia in an interview with the Herald Sun.
McAvaney said he was diagnosed with the disease after a routine check-up two years ago, but was not letting it interfere with his “living a complete life”.
The health battle was one of the reasons he stepped away from calling this year’s Australian Open.
“It is quite strange to say I have leukaemia because I feel well,” he told the newspaper.
“Look it could be very serious. It could jump out of the ground at any moment. I don’t expect it will. But I’m living a complete life with no restrictions.”
