Mingenew fatality: 7yo struck and killed by truck

A seven-year-old child has been killed by a truck in the small Western Australian town of Mingenew, 380 kilometres north of Perth.

Police said the boy was standing on the corner of Midlands Road and Williams Street about 7:30pm on Tuesday when he was hit by the vehicle.

He died a short time later in hospital.

The truck did not stop. Police later located the driver, who was assisting police with inquiries.

“At this time we are not treating this as a hit-and-run incident,” he said.

Earlier, police said the driver may not have realised what had happened.

Police urged drivers whose vehicles used Midlands Road in Mingenew last night to contact them.
