Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is expected to unveil a $2 billion expansion plan for the Snowy Mountains Hydro scheme to increase the power output by 50 percent.
The announcement of a new series of tunnels and power stations is expected to increase the power output of the famous project completed in 1974 by 50 per cent – enough to power 500,000 homes, reports suggest.
The Snowy Mountains scheme is a hydroelectricity and irrigation complex that extends across 5,124 square kilometres in south-east NSW.
