A terrorism investigation has begun in Russia after an explosion on a train carriage in St Petersburg’s underground metro killed at least 11 people and injured dozens more.

The blast hit a train travelling between two stations in the western city’s centre during mid-afternoon.
Photos of the scene showed a train at a station with its doors blown out, and the dead and injured lying on the platform.
“When we were climbing out of the train carriage — it collapsed, all of it, everything just went black,” one commuter said.
