Flooding will inundate about 300 homes and businesses in the central Queensland city of Rockhampton when the Fitzroy River reaches its flood peak around midday, authorities say.
The river has been rising slowly for several days and by early this morning had reached a level of 8.7 metres.
It is expected to rise to 9 metres at its peak.
Senior hydrologist Charlotte Faulkner said the peak level would hold until the weekend.
“We’re anticipating it will stay around the 9-metre mark for certainly 24 hours and up to 48 hours but we shall see how things unfold today,” she said.
