Victorians are being advised to batten down the hatches as a severe thunderstorm sweeps across the state with Melbourne expected to receive its March average rainfall in three days.
The news comes as more than 4000 people remain isolated in northern NSW because of heavy rain, with more wet weather forecast for much of the state.
As the wild conditions take effect across the country the Bureau of Meteorology has warned that severe thunderstorms have been detected on the radar across the country that will affect Shepparton, Seymour, Melbourne, Bacchus Marsh, Wodonga and Wangaratta as well as the central west slopes and plains, and upper western and northern tablelands of NSW.
