Fleabag season 2 confirmed for next year

fleabag.jpgOne of UK television’s most affecting comedies is making its return, with Fleabag now confirmed for a second season.

Writer and star Phoebe Waller-Bridge confirmed the news to Radio Times; though she’d stated she’d only bring back the show if she had an idea “that was good enough”, it appears she’s had a breakthrough on how to continue after the revelations of the season’s finale.

“We cracked it open so that she would be able to have a life beyond it and also there are so many more stories and story strands and character strands come out of this series. [I only wanted to bring the show back if I had] an idea that was good enough. I think I have one. We are all trying to make it work and have the same team back,” she stated.

Cousins told his father he did not want to quit drugs…remanded in custody

TROUBLED former AFL premiership player Ben Cousins is willing to go to rehab after spending a month in prison, but his phone calls indicate he has no intention of quitting drugs, a Perth court was told.

The former West Coast Eagles captain had a full beard and was wearing a T-shirt when he pleaded guilty in Armadale Magistrates Court on Monday to 11 offences, including aggravated stalking and drug possession.

The 38-year-old’s lawyer Michael Tudori said a rare opportunity had come up for a spot in a residential rehab program, but the police prosecutor said they were seeking a prison sentence.

The court heard Cousins’ phone calls were tapped in prison and he told his father he did not want to quit.

But Mr Tudori said those calls were made earlier in his prison stint and he no longer felt that way.

Cousins was remanded in custody to appear in the drug court at Perth Magistrates Court next Monday.

Protesters place 800 dead ducks on Melbourne premier’s office

Anti-duck shooting protesters put on a grisly display after they placed 800 dead birds outside of the Melbourne to mark the start of the hunting season – its 31st annual protest.

The Coalition Against Duck Shooting (CADS) placed the bird carcasses on Treasury Place outside of Daniel Andrews’ office as a stand against the ‘massacre’ hunting season.

Birds including rare freckled ducks and blue bills were recovered from hunting grounds and the grisly haul was laid on the ground as a silent protest against the sport.

Private phone numbers of every Aussie MP accidentally published

The Department of Parliamentary Services failed to delete phone numbers before it posted the most recent round of politicians’ phone bills on the Parliament House website.

Federal ministers’ personal mobile phone numbers have been put online after a government department failed to ensure they were properly deleted from a report.

The Department of Parliamentary Services regularly releases six-monthly reports on MPs’ mobile phone and internet spending details.

However, the latest report for January to June 2016 included the mobile phone numbers of most MPs and senators, including most ministers.

China expands its footprint in the South China Sea

“WHAT will I do? Declare a war against China?” An aggressive new expansion by Beijing into the South China Sea has rattled Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte.

The controversial president said overnight that his militarily inferior country can’t stop China’s expansionist actions in contested waters.

He pointed out even the might of the United States was not deterring Beijing.

Beijing has already reclaimed large areas around several islets and reefs in the Spratly archipelago and elsewhere in the South China Sea, as well as installing military facilities on some of them.

However analysts warn that building on Scarborough Shoal would radically change the situation since it is just 230km from Luzon, the most populous island in the Philippines.

Duterte’s outburst comes after reports China plans to do exactly that.

Donald Trump’s new travel ban blocked by second judge

A US federal judge in Maryland has issued a temporary stay of President Donald Trump’s revised travel ban a day after a similar ruling in Hawaii.

The initial ban, imposed January 27, was likewise blocked by a federal judge, prompting the administration to craft a new executive order that included changes aimed at allowing the measure to pass muster in the courts.

The original measure suspended US entry for all refugees as well as travellers from a group of Muslim-majority countries: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen.

Among the alterations made in the second order were the removal of Iraq from the list of targeted nations and an exemption for travellers who obtained US visas ahead of the Jan. 27 announcement.
