RAC rescue helicopter heading to skydiving accident in York

A COMPETITOR has died during the Australian National Skydiving Championships being held in York.

Skydive Australia said it was believed the man collided with another jumper after their parachutes became tangled during a formation jump.

The incident happened about 5.15pm at a skydiving centre on Spencers Brook-York Road, near the intersection of Mackie Siding Road, in Burges.

The dead man was an experienced skydiver aged in his thirties. No other person was injured in the incident.

WA Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident. The drop zone has been secured.
