NSW weather: Severe Storm, golf-ball sized hailstones in Dubbo

Heavy rain and golf-ball sized hailstones are hitting parts of central-west New South Wales with a severe thunderstorm warning in place.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has predicted the worst-hit locations will be in the central and northern areas of the state and has issued a warning for Tenterfield, Dubbo, Tabulam, Drake, Baryulgil and Narromine.

Dubbo has felt the brunt of the storm so far, with golf-ball-sized hailstones and 51 millimetres of rain falling since 9.00am and turning streets into shallow canals.

The amount of rain in the last six hours is just short of the 55mm average for the region for the whole month of March.

Parkes has had 37mm fall and further north in, Tenterfield 30mm has been recorded. There has also been lightning in the central-west.

Extra emergency crews have been called into Dubbo and the State Emergency Service (SES) says it has received 65 call-outs for help so far.
