Trump’s Phoenix speech was bizarre and dishonest: sky.com

To rewrite his response to Charlottesville – a matter so sensitive and fundamental in modern America – is being seen as a new low.

When the clouds of pepper spray clear from the streets of Phoenix, Americans will survey the wreckage of Donald Trump’s latest assault on the rules of American politics.

The uncompromising dispersal of protesters by police was a dramatic end to another extraordinary night in Trump world.

Can there be any more telling image of the simmering temperature of American politics right now than what happened outside of where the President had just been speaking?

His critics will say he fed those divisions with what he said during 96 strange minutes on stage at the Phoenix Convention Centre.

His attempt to build on the perceived success of his Afghanistan speech the night before collapsed within 10 minutes in Arizona.

He veered from the teleprompter, rarely to return, and unloaded his presidential frustrations.

The 20 minutes he spent defending his response to Charlottesville and attacking the media was bizarre and dishonest.

To rewrite his own history – neglecting to mention that he blamed “many sides” in his statement on the incident – on a matter so sensitive and fundamental in modern America is being seen as a new low.

That original statement was broadcast live. Everyone saw it. Everyone knows what he said. He knows that everyone knows.

That he accused the media of lying while being so untruthful is baffling…

Four killed in South Korean shipyard blast

At least four people have been killed in South Korea in an explosion ...An explosion at a shipyard in South Korea has killed four workers.

South Korea’s fire department did not give the cause of Sunday’s blast. Korean media reports said a tank exploded in a ship under construction.

The four men, aged in their 30s to 50s, were painting the ship in the yard in Jinhae, an industrial hub on the country’s southeast coast, an official from the National Fire Agency said.

“No additional injuries were reported,” the official said.

The ship is intended to carry about 74,000 tonnes of oil, and to be delivered to a Greek buyer in October.

NSW weather: Severe Storm, golf-ball sized hailstones in Dubbo

Heavy rain and golf-ball sized hailstones are hitting parts of central-west New South Wales with a severe thunderstorm warning in place.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has predicted the worst-hit locations will be in the central and northern areas of the state and has issued a warning for Tenterfield, Dubbo, Tabulam, Drake, Baryulgil and Narromine.

Dubbo has felt the brunt of the storm so far, with golf-ball-sized hailstones and 51 millimetres of rain falling since 9.00am and turning streets into shallow canals.

The amount of rain in the last six hours is just short of the 55mm average for the region for the whole month of March.

Parkes has had 37mm fall and further north in, Tenterfield 30mm has been recorded. There has also been lightning in the central-west.

Extra emergency crews have been called into Dubbo and the State Emergency Service (SES) says it has received 65 call-outs for help so far.
