PERTH is set to record its coldest day of the year as a cold front which swept across the city delivered hail to several suburbs.
At 3.20pm the maximum temperature recorded had been 14.2 degrees at 1.21pm. The previous coldest day of the year had come on Sunday July 2, when the temperature “maxed out” at 14.6.
Footage of hail had been captured by residents in Jane Brook, Lesmurdie, Kelmscott, Bassendean and Mandurah – where Meadow Springs, Falcon, Erskine, Dudley Park and Greenfields were all hit.
The Mandurah hail came during a lunchtime downpour where winds of nearly 70km/h crossed the coast.
Meanwhile, the heavy rain that started on Tuesday continued into today and resulted in more than 50mm of rain being recorded at the Perth metropolitan station over the two days.
Perth recorded more than 47mm of rain in the 24 hours until 9am today and has registered another 6mm since, with more to come from overnight showers.
The good news is that the worst of the front has now passed and better weather can be expected tomorrow and Friday. The bad new is that the winter conditions will return for the weekend and beyond.
Heavier falls will be back from Friday night and early Saturday morning, with showers during the day on Saturday and that will continue into Sunday.
Another cold front is set to move in for Monday.
