Cassie Sainsbury: Australian in Colombia now face a full trial. Judge rejected the plea agreement

ALLEGED drug mule Cassie Sainsbury faces 20 years in prison after a judge threw out a plea-deal between her lawyers and prosecutors when she insisted she had been threatened.

Judge Leon rejected the plea agreement on the grounds that she had not accepted full responsibility for trying to smuggle the drugs.

She must now face a full trial to prove her innocence.

Early this morning Laurie Adams, the father-in-law of Cassie’s older sister, Khala Sainsbury, said the family felt strained after learning the plea bargain had been rejected.

“She (Khala) won’t be making any statements today because she’s not well,” he said.

“It’s stressful for everybody, very stressful.

“We’re all very concerned for what’s going on and that’s all we can say.”
