‘I’ve never raced with less power in my life!’ #F1 Fernando Alonso blasts Honda…

Fernando Alonso’s McLaren woes hit a new low at the Bahrain Grand Prix after the Spaniard hit out at engine supplier Honda on his way to a third straight retirement.

The Spaniard pulled into the McLaren garage on the final lap through an ‘engine problem’ while down in 13th, having struggled near the back of the field for much of the race.

Clearly frustrated at the lack of progress Honda have made since forming a partnership with the Woking outfit in 2015, the two-time world champion, who will race at the Indy 500 in May, shared his frustrations over the team radio.

After being passed by two cars, Alonso vented: ‘How the hell can they overtake me? Three hundred meters behind me at the beginning of the straight. I’ve never raced with less power in my life.’

When then told about a possible change in race strategy the 35-year-old replied in a resigned manner by saying: ‘Do whatever you want, mate.’

Alonso has previous when it comes to publicly complaining about the lack of power in his car, with the former Ferrari driver once comparing his Honda power unit in the McLaren to a GP2 engine at the 2015 Japanese Grand Prix.
