2,000-year-old ruins belonging to earliest rulers of Mexico’s Zapotec civilisation are unearthed

It is a grand monument to a mysterious lost civilisation and one of the earliest states to come into existence in Mesoamerica.

After working on the site for more than a decade archaeologists have finally uncovered the palatial compound of the Zapotec civilisation which flourished more than 2,000 years ago.

Hidden in the the Oaxaca Valley in Mexico, archaeologists believe this ruin in El Palenque’s plaza was the home and business centre for rulers of an ancient empire.
