Restaurant Witches in Britches ‘brewed up bootleg spirits/passed it off as legal booze’

Horror-themed Melbourne restaurant Witches in Britches has been caught for allegedly brewing bootleg spirits and passing it off as legal alcohol.

Police allegedly found 450 litres of counterfeit liquor stored in a room at the Melbourne musical-theatre restaurant last year, according to the Herald Sun.

The publication reported that the substitute alcohol was being stored in 20-litre drums and then poured into five popular brands of vodka, bourbon and whisky.

But Maurizio Termine, owner of Witches and Britches, told Daily Mail Australia all the alcohol was legitimately bought in bulk at wholesale auctions, and was simply being transferred from bulkier bottles to ones that fit dispensers at his bar.
