$400,000 damage: Bulldozer fire at controversial Golden Bay land development south of Perth

CONSTRUCTION equipment used in a controversial coastal land development south of Perth has been set alight on Wednesday night, causing $400,000 damage.

Firefighters were called to the construction site at Dampier Drive in Golden Bay at 9.45pm after security guards saw the cabin of a bulldozer on fire.

The blaze caused $400,000 damage to the bulldozer but no other pieces of machinery were burnt.

The equipment was being used to level and remove sand dunes in preparation for more construction.

In June, the WA Planning Commission granted conditional approval for the subdivision of the area, known as 5A, with plans for 88 residential lots.

However, local residents and protesters are fighting the development, with several protests this week in an effort to retain sand dunes…
