Labor pledges $1.6bn funding boost for WA

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten has addressed the 2017 WA Labor Conference where he has pledged to enshrine same sex marriage into Australian law and invest $1.6 billion in WA infrastructure as a GST concession.

WA currently receives 34 cents for every dollar of GST revenue it collects.

While Labor’s policy does not change the current formula, Mr Shorten says the proposed increased commonwealth funding would make up some difference.

‘Friends, the real test of leadership is whether you’re prepared to do something about it,’ Mr Shorten said. ‘It’s whether you offer a solution.’

‘I do not need a review to know that 34 cents in the dollar is a dud deal for the west.’
