Super Netball: Sunshine Coast Lightning emphatically beat Giants in inaugural grand final

The Sunshine Coast Lightning have won the first Super Netball title with a 65-48 win over the Giants in the grand final.

Lightning goalkeeper Geva Mentor did a number on Giants shooter Kristina Brice and Susan Pettitt — finishing the game with four rebounds, four deflections and an intercept — and her effort was matched at the other end.

Goal-attack Stephanie Wood was superb with 16 goals and 20 assists, while national star shooter Caitlin Bassett was as influential as ever, nailing 49 of her 51 shots.

Sunshine Coast’s win continues Queensland’s dominance of the domestic netball scene, with the Firebirds winning the last two trans-Tasman titles leading up to the introduction of Super Netball.
