DRUNK man has been hailed an unlikely hero in the Grenfell fire tragedy: pressing wrong elevator button discovered the blaze

DRUNK man has been hailed as an unlikely hero in the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy — after he discovered the blaze by pressing the wrong elevator button

Resident Miguel Alves, who was just getting home from work and lived on the 13th floor, got in the elevator with a “drunk man” about 1am, an hour after the fire started.

Miguel told friends the man randomly hit the number ‘4’ by accident, the level where the inferno took hold, reportedly from an exploding fridge.

When the elevator doors opened the two men became aware of the fire after smoke clouded the lift.

Miguel rushed up to his floor and woke his wife Fatima, daughter Ines, 16, and son Tiago, and guided them quickly to safety.

He then circled the building desperately banging on the doors of his neighbours and urging them to leave…
