Eiffel tower transformed into thrill ride

It’s a view, to a thrill. While previously it’s only been open to 007 and Bond villains to daringly jump or ride the cables from the Eiffel Tower, now Hollywood fantasy has come to life.

Dare devils are now being given their own ‘Licence to Thrill’ with the famous landmark becoming one of the planet’s great rides.

Beverage giant Perrier has backed a new zip-line attraction from the tower to celebrate the start of the French Open.

For those willing to take the leap, the zip line named ‘Le Perrier Smash’ has been set up from the second floor of the famous landmark and ends at L’École Militaire on the other side.

There is even some science involved as participants are hurled forward from 115m above the ground and sent across the line reaching a speed of approximately 90kms/h because this is the average speed of a tennis serve.

Volunteer Julien Bidet, 39, said he both feared and loved the experience, while 19-year-old Celia Bresson said she had plunged into the emptiness without a doubt in her mind.

The decent lasts roughly one minute and allows dare takers to enjoy the beautiful sights of the Champs de Mars below.

Afterwards participants are able to enjoy the tennis matches on a big screen set up at Perrier village.

The zip line is free and will operate from 5th to 11th June.
