The blast is said to have occurred on Wednesday afternoon while workers were making firecrackers in Kheri Village, in the state of Madhya Pradesh, triggering a blaze that has engulfed the factory.
The Press Trust of India is quoting a district police official, who says firefighers have now extinguished the blaze but 23 workers had died and seven others were injured.
