A Melbourne man is arrested after police search three homes as part of a counter-terrorism operation linked to Monday’s deadly siege in Brighton.
A 32-year-old Glenroy man has been arrested after police searched three homes in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, as part of an counter-terrorism operation linked to firearms used by the gunman in Monday’s Brighton siege.
Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner Shane Patton said about 150 officers, working with the Joint Counter Terrorism Team, searched three homes in Ascot Vale, Glenroy and Gladstone Park.
He said the raids were related to firearms used by Yacqub Khayre, who shot dead a man, held a woman hostage and wounded three police officers before being shot and killed in Brighton in what police are treating as a terrorist attack.
