Customs officers have discovered about six kilograms of cocaine hidden in books among a woman’s luggage at Perth Airport after she arrived on a flight from Johannesburg.
The 32-year-old South African woman was charged with attempting to import the cocaine.
The drugs were found when the woman’s baggage was examined by Australian Border Force (ABF) officers after her flight landed in Perth last night.
“During the examination, ABF officers detected six packages concealed in six books,” the Australian Federal Police (AFP) said.
“Initial testing returned a positive result for the border controlled drug cocaine.
“The exact weight and purity of the cocaine will be subject to further forensic testing.
“The AFP attended and arrested the woman. She was later charged with importing a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug.”
The woman is facing a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

Nationals MP George Christensen says he won’t vote for the CET unless it has includes an incentive for coal.
Labor has indicated it will support a CET but not if it involves clean coal technology.
George Christensen has told SKY NEWS LIVE he will not ‘countenance’ voting for a CET that excludes coal.
‘I don’t want to put words in other people’s mouth, but if you talk to many in the National party they would be of the same view, including our leadership’ he said.
‘It’s the view of many also in the Liberal party.
‘Unless we just say oh well, ‘Labor’s view is so coal, we’ll have to accept that’, we’ll have no policy stability.’

It’s a view, to a thrill. While previously it’s only been open to 007 and Bond villains to daringly jump or ride the cables from the Eiffel Tower, now Hollywood fantasy has come to life.
Dare devils are now being given their own ‘Licence to Thrill’ with the famous landmark becoming one of the planet’s great rides.
Beverage giant Perrier has backed a new zip-line attraction from the tower to celebrate the start of the French Open.
For those willing to take the leap, the zip line named ‘Le Perrier Smash’ has been set up from the second floor of the famous landmark and ends at L’Γcole Militaire on the other side.
There is even some science involved as participants are hurled forward from 115m above the ground and sent across the line reaching a speed of approximately 90kms/h because this is the average speed of a tennis serve.
Volunteer Julien Bidet, 39, said he both feared and loved the experience, while 19-year-old Celia Bresson said she had plunged into the emptiness without a doubt in her mind.
The decent lasts roughly one minute and allows dare takers to enjoy the beautiful sights of the Champs de Mars below.
Afterwards participants are able to enjoy the tennis matches on a big screen set up at Perrier village.
The zip line is free and will operate from 5th to 11th June.

Accused drug smuggler Cassie Sainsbury earned up to $240 an hour for a ‘deluxe’ service at the Sydney brothel where she worked as a prostitute just months before her ill-fated trip to Colombia.
Workers at Club 220 Gentleman’s Club at Kingswood, in Sydney’s western suburbs, revealed on Tuesday that Cassie – who worked under the name Claudia – earned a minimum of $150 for 30 minutes with a client. For a 60 minute ‘deluxe service’, Cassie could earn $240.
The brothel claims on its website to specialise in ‘truly affectionate and sensual’ services, where clients are encouraged to come in and ‘act out your fantasies’.
Club 220 Madam Pamela Feranchi, who watched over Ms Sainsbury when she worked at the brothel up until the start of this year, said her heart broke when she saw her former worker on television, charged with drug smuggling.

‘Cassie always came across as a nice and really sweet,’ Ms Feranchi said.
Ms Feranchi said Cassie was a good employee, but told her colleagues she had problems in her personal life and would often be in tears.
I felt for her, sometimes she would cry in the corner eating pizza, chips and gravy.
‘She wasn’t the most popular girl, she was a bit tubby, but she had a good stream of customers,’ she said.
Despite claims since her arrest that Ms Sainsbury was heavily involved in drugs, Ms Feranchi said she struggled to believe that.
‘I don’t hire girls who are on drugs and I was surprised to see her caught up in that,’ she said.
‘She would barely even have a drink while she was here.
‘And it shouldn’t matter if she worked here before this- it is two separate parts of her life.’
Most of the neighbouring businesses claimed Ms Feranchi would collect food and supplies for the girls during their shifts.
‘They’re really quiet neighbours you see their cars arrive in the morning and the gentlemen heading through the back and front doors but that is it.’
But one nearby shop worker did recognise Ms Sainsbury and claimed she would buy a ‘pie and some soft drink’ a few times a week, before work.
‘It was a shock when I saw her in the paper I thought I know that girl she used to come in here, and works down the road.
‘It is strange to see someone you know in the paper for this,’ she said.
Other businesses told Daily Mail Australia they believe Ms Sainsbury did the ‘night shift’.
‘I go home at 5pm – they have more girls on in the nights because that’s when there is a stream of customers.’
