AUS Govt settles Manus detainees’ class action: FOI docs reveal $23.4m in compensation

The Australian government will settle a class action to compensate around 1900 Manus Island detainees

Lawyers for the detainees have told the Victorian Supreme Court they have reached a settlement with the Australian government and the operators of the Manus Island Regional Processing Centre.

The 1905 class action group members were seeking damages for alleged physical and psychological injuries they argue they suffered as a result of the conditions in which they were held on Manus Island, as well as for false imprisonment.
