Deadly Thornlie blaze kills toddler Thyreese Alaniz and great grandfather Hugo Alaniz

Screenshot from 2018-06-14 19-21-57.pngA FOUR-YEAR-OLD boy and his great grandfather have died following a deadly blaze at a home in Thornlie last night.

Toddler Thyreese and his great-grandfather Hugo Alaniz, 69, were pulled unconscious from the fire on Rushbrook Way last night.

Paramedics worked for more than 30 minutes to resuscitate the pair and they were rushed to Fiona Stanley Hospital in a critical condition.

Mr Alaniz died a short time later.

Relatives said the little boy was unresponsive and confirmed brain dead this morning, but they had kept him on life support in a bid to save his organs for donation.

Tragically he was confirmed dead this evening.

Hugo Alaniz’s son Raul Alaniz spoke outside hospital today after the family spent the morning by Thyreese’s bed side at Perth Children’s Hospital.

“Thyreese has passed away,” he told 7 News Perth.

“He’s not responsive this morning and we’re in the middle of organising for his organs to be donated.”

Fire Investigators are still looking into the cause of the blaze but said a fire alarm at the property didn’t work.

Fire Investigation Officer Mark Hayes, said it was a timely reminder for families around the State to check their alarms.

“There was no battery in it,” he said

#Perth weather: looming cold front to deliver Perth’s wettest June for five years

The rain will be back in force in Perth by early next week.Perth is set to record its wettest June for five years inside the first 19 days of the month – with another cold front poised to deliver a soaking to the city.

And the metropolitan gauge may also have received its average rainfall for June by Tuesday.

The latest in a series of cold fronts that have rolled across the coast is set to arrive from late Sunday night and deliver as much as 40mm of rain to Perth on Monday.

There could be up to another 23mm across Tuesday and Wednesday.

“Perth is probably going to start seeing the front from about midnight on Sunday,” Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster James Ashley said.

“When it hits there is going to be plenty of heavy rain and also likely some squally winds to go with it.

“The rain is going to be seen pretty much right across the west and South West of the state.”

The rainfall will spread far enough east to deliver up to 10mm to farming areas like Cunderdin and Merredin but there will probably only be weak rainfall (5 to 10mm) east of Albany towards Esperance.

But Perth needs only another 29mm to post its wettest winter since 2012, when 140mm fell in the metropolitan gauge.

Matthew Fisher-Turner murder trial hears brother was ‘afraid of getting caught’ #Perth man sobbed uncontrollably as he detailed to police how his brother was fatally stabbed by their father, who then told him to bury the body in the backyard

Matthew Fisher-Turner takes a seflie while standing on a beach wearing a black cap and jumper.A 28-year-old Perth man sobbed uncontrollably as he detailed to police how his brother was fatally stabbed by their father, who then told him to bury the body in the backyard before leaving to watch the AFL grand final.

In October 2016, Joshua Fisher-Turner was being interviewed by detectives investigating the murder of his 23-year-old brother Matthew, whose body was found in a hole in the yard four weeks after he was last seen alive.

Mr Fisher-Turner and his 21-year-old sister Hannah are on trial in the WA Supreme Court, accused of trying to cover up the killing. Their 67-year-old father Ernest Fisher is accused of murder.

In the recorded interview played to the court today, Joshua Fisher-Turner initially maintained he had last seen Matthew on the day of the AFL grand final when his brother packed a bag and told him he was going on holidays.

However, about an hour an into the interview — and after detectives put to him what evidence they had in the case — Mr Fisher-Turner broke down, describing his brother as an “arsehole to everyone” and claiming he physically abused him, his father and his two younger sisters.

Leo Varadkar elected as Republic of Ireland’s taoiseach (prime minister)

Leo Varadkar becomes Ireland’s youngest leader after his election by 57 votes to 50 in the Irish parliament.

A vote in the Dáil (Irish parliament) confirmed the 38-year-old as the country’s youngest, and first gay, leader.

The former GP, who is the son of an Irish nurse and a doctor from India, won the Fine Gael party leadership earlier this month.

He has made his leadership rival Simon Coveney the deputy leader of the party.

Mr Varadkar was elected as taoiseach by 57 votes to 50, with 47 members of parliament abstaining from the vote.

Addressing the Dáil after his election, he said: “I’ve been elected to lead but I promise to serve.”

Outgoing taoiseach Enda Kenny nominated Mr Varadkar to succeed him at the start of Dáil proceedings, saying that he would carry out the role with integrity and skill.

“As the country’s youngest holder of this office, he speaks for a new generation of Irish women and Irish men,” he said.

Virginia shooting: House majority whip shot at congressional baseball practice

Republican House majority whip is among at least four shot, and Alexandria police say the suspect is believed to be in custody

Congressman Mo Brooks is giving a remarkable eyewitness interview on CNN.

Of the killer he said:

I don’t know if he was killed but I tell you I don’t have any kind thoughts about the shooter so let’s leave it at that.

He appeared to be a white male. But bear in mind I saw him for just a second or two, a fraction of a second.

If I had to guess, middle aged … he wasn’t skinny, but he did not appear to be obese either.

Police are investigating a shooting at a congressional baseball practice session in Virginia.

Steve Scalise, the Republican House majority whip, and at least four others have been shot, Alabama congressman Mo Brooks told CNN.

The extent of Scalise’s injuries are unknown.

Other lawmakers at the gathering in Alexandria are now secure, Brooks told CNN.

Alexandria police said the suspect was believed to be in custody.

Since the investigation was launched, the Daily Mail has reported that the female contestant involved in the incident may have been too drunk to consent to sexual activity. “There was hugging and kissing and touching, but before long, she seemed to go limp,” they said. “[He] kept trying to hold her up and… he appeared to be having intercourse with her.

“After he finished – which only lasted a few seconds – he lifted her out of the water and laid her on the cement, where he proceeded to have oral sex with her.

Windows 10 S review: faster, simpler … and incredibly painful to use

New Windows variant delivers on speed, security and simplicity – but its limited Windows Store apps and awful Edge browser just don’t cut it

Windows 10 S is the latest version of Microsoft’s new and improved operating system, which is about to launch with the new Surface Laptop and a series of machines from third-party manufactures.

It joins Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro as the three versions of Windows aimed at consumers. However, confusingly it is not an upgrade to either, but a class of Windows in and of itself…

Ariana Grande is to become the first honorary citizen of Manchester for helping to raise millions of pounds for victims of the Manchester Arena attack.

The US pop star exemplified the “resilient and compassionate” way the city responded to the terror atrocity that claimed 22 lives and injured 220 others last month, council leaders said.

The new accolade came as town hall officials announced plans for an event to recognise the “great many selfless acts and demonstrations of community spirit” in the aftermath of the attack on 22 May.

UK: Woman seen holding baby out of burning tower. …attempts to reach trapped residents were hopeless.

A witness to the London tower inferno grabbed an axe and entered the building’s second storey through a window in a bid to save residents.

Jody Martin told the BBC he had seen one person falling out a window and a woman holding her baby out of the building.

But he said there was so much smoke, his attempts to reach trapped residents were hopeless.

“You’re watching them waving in the window and you know there’s nothing they can do,” Mr Martin told BBC radio.

He said it did not look like fire crews were able to get past the fourth floor – and spraying the building with water had not had much effect.

“Nobody would have been able to get out from the third floor upwards without assistance from the fire crew, and I don’t think fire crews would have gone up any higher than that,” he said…
