RAC rescue helicopter heading to skydiving accident in York

A COMPETITOR has died during the Australian National Skydiving Championships being held in York.

Skydive Australia said it was believed the man collided with another jumper after their parachutes became tangled during a formation jump.

The incident happened about 5.15pm at a skydiving centre on Spencers Brook-York Road, near the intersection of Mackie Siding Road, in Burges.

The dead man was an experienced skydiver aged in his thirties. No other person was injured in the incident.

WA Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident. The drop zone has been secured.

Man tries to drive a car into a crowd in Antwerp

A man wearing camouflage has been arrested after trying to drive a car with French plates into a crowd on a busy shopping street in Antwerp.

Belgian police, who confirmed more security personnel had been sent to the area, said the car was being driven at high speed.

It comes hours after a terrorist was shot dead after a massacre outside Parliament in Westminster.

Andreea Cristea: Woman named who fell into the Thames during London terror attack

The woman who plunged into the Thames during the terror attack in Westminster has been named, according to Romanian media. Andreea Cristea, a 29-year-old Romanian architect, was spotted in the river soon after the attack. It isn’t clear whether she leapt into the water to escape the violence or if she was thrown from the bridge as part of it.

Romanian Ambassador Dan Mihalache told Realitatea TV late Wednesday that the woman sustained serious head injuries and has badly damaged lungs.

Aspiring ISIS fighter killed his wife in front of children before gouging out her eye

A Melbourne man who wanted to fight for Islamic State slaughtered his wife in front of their three little children, police court documents allege.

The Melbourne man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, took his young children with him in the car to dump their mother’s mutilated body in grassland.

He then took them to a bakery to eat pastries.

At the accused killer’s committal hearing on Thursday, a magistrates’ court heard the children are now in the care of child protection services and are highly disturbed.

BREAKING: Russian MP who fled Moscow is shot dead in Kiev

A Russian MP who fled Moscow fearing for his life at the hands of President Putin’s secret service has been shot dead in the Ukrainian capital Kiev.

Denis Voronenkov, who had recently criticised the Ukrainian government, was gunned down in broad daylight.

The 45-year-old fled Moscow in October with his wife Maria Maksakova, an opera singer, saying they were fed up of the ‘schizophrenic’ Russian government.

Bravery of PC Keith Palmer honoured by friends, colleagues and MPs

James Cleverly, who had known the officer for 25 years, led MPs’ tributes to policeman who died trying to protect them

Palmer, 48, was a member of the Met’s parliamentary and diplomatic protection command with 15 years of service as a police officer. The married father, believed to have been a member of the Royal Artillery before he joined the police, was unarmed when the lone attacker came charging towards him on Wednesday afternoon.

Conservative MP James Cleverly, who served alongside Palmer in the army, paid tribute to the “lovely man” he had known for a quarter of a century.

“I’ve known Keith for 25 years. We served together in the Royal Artillery before he became a copper,” Cleverly wrote. “A lovely man, a friend. I’m heartbroken. My thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues of PC Keith Palmer. A brave man.”

Ivanka Trump’s family skiing ‘funded by the taxpayer’

Ivanka Trump has sparked outrage for the cost of her family’s spring break ski holiday in Colorado. President Donald Trump’s daughter, her husband Jared Kushner, their children and the President’s other son Eric reportedly required 100 Secret Service agents to travel with the group for the trip.

The US Secret Service, funded by the US taxpayer, is reported to have spent $12,208 on rental ski equipment and clothing at the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club.

Fellow holiday-goers at the high-end ski resort in the Rocky Mountains voiced their anger about the Trump family’s presence. Some expressed their annoyance at struggling to get dinner reservations and increased traffic in their area.

Adelaide mother named as victim in London terror attack

Adelaide mother Trish Neis-Beer was visiting her daughter while on holidays when she was run over by a terrorist in London as he mowed down dozens of people on Westminster Bridge.

Trish Neis-Beer, who was born in Germany but is an Australian resident and works in Adelaide, had her foot run over during the lone wolf rampage in central London.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop confirmed Ms Neis-Beer was recovering in hospital and receiving consular assistance after Wednesday’s atrocity.
