NSW north coast prepares for flooding

NSW north and mid-north coast residents are being urged to prepare for flooding, with more rain forecast.

After a wet long weekend in which more than 150mm of rain fell across the Northern Rivers district in just 48 hours, the State Emergency Service is on alert.

‘Rain is likely to pick up late Tuesday afternoon into the evening and push through until Wednesday morning,’ SES spokeswoman Becky Gollings told AAP.

She said there was some ‘uncertainty’ about exactly where the rain would fall and SES crews were ‘erring on the side of caution’ in asking residents to be prepared.

She said the region may have ‘dodged a bullet’ as the rain hasn’t caused a dangerous situation.

Lismore deputy mayor Gianpiero Battista said on Tuesday morning the town was fine for the moment as the rain was falling over the coastal regions and not the inland catchment areas.
