Drunk Soldiers Blamed For Manus Island Rampage

Drunken soldiers are thought to be responsible for the violent rampage that occurred at the Manus Island detention centre on Friday evening.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the soldiers’ actions have been described as “unethical and unacceptable” by Papau New Guinea’s provincial police commander David Yapu.

Yapu told the Sydney Morning Herald that the soldiers, who were intoxicated at the time, assaulted refugees and caused a large amount of damage to the compound’s infrastructure.
