PERTH residents got a rude awakening when a loud storm swept through the metro area late last night, but photographers were out in force capturing the show.
The rain was welcome relief for a city sweltering through a hot March night. The temperature in Pearce dropped six degrees between 10pm and 11pm.
Pearce also copped the brunt of the rain with nearly 30mm falling since 10pm. Bickley and Garden Island also had a drenching with 14mm and 10mm respectively.
But the rain wasn’t too much of a surprise with the Bureau of Meteorology reporting this summer was the wettest on record for WA, since comparable records began in 1900.
The bureau also reported the summer maximum temperatures were below average for most of WA with a dip of 0.8C – the coolest in 11 years.
