UK weather set to batter Britain with 60mph winds and snow as temperatures plunge to -1C – and it could get worse by Friday

WINDS of 60mph are set to batter Britain tonight as temperatures plunge to -1C with snow forecast across parts of the country. The Met Office has warned strong gusts of 60mph will blast south Wales…

Snow is expected to fall on high ground in the north west, Wales and northern Ireland as temperatures plunge to freezing across the country tonight, causing widespread frost and ice.

But it could get worse by the weekend, with the Met Office says it could be forced to issue a severe weather warning over heavy rain and freezing showers set to hammer south and central parts of the country on Friday and Saturday.

It comes as Storm Ewan powered into Ireland this week bringing snow, freezing gales, 90mph and Arctic temperatures just days after Storm Doris battered Britain.

A Met Office spokeswoman said there were no more full-blown storms “on the horizon” at the moment, but said the weather would remain changeable.
