Those familiar with the plight of ailing dementia sufferer Ashley Thomas were dealt another emotional blow on Monday evening as the character prepares to bow out of long-running soap Emmerdale.
Loyal viewers have watched the former vicar battle degenerative vascular dementia, commonly caused by problems in the blood supply to the brain, following his shock diagnosis in 2015.
And Ashley’s illness took another devastating turn on Monday after he once again forgot heartbroken wife Laurel’s name – prompting her to hand over her wedding ring in a bid to jolt his memory.
