#Perth in for weekend of wet weather, gusty winds. Half a month’s rain in just two days

A woman wearing a red coat walks along a footpath carrying a buckling umbrella above her head with traffic in the background.Get the umbrellas ready — Perth is set for a weekend of wet weather.

A complex storm front on Saturday night and into Sunday will drench the state with up to 50 millimetres of rainfall, possible thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 90 kilometres per hour.

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster James Ashley said the storm front would cause Perth to hit the halfway mark for the average June rainfall of 173 millimetres in just two days.

“We’re going to have a pretty rainy period Saturday night until about lunchtime on Sunday,” he said.

“About 1:00pm, the wet weather will pass and it will clear up. But between 7:00 tonight and 1:00 tomorrow afternoon, the Perth area is likely to see falls of 20 to 50 millimetres or more with the passage of that system.

“I’d expect coastal parts of the metropolitan area will see winds of up to 80km an hour easing as they get further inland.”

Mr Ashley said while the rain would be heavy at times, it would not be enough to cause significant flooding.

Woman detonates bomb in crowded Friday market in Iraq, killing at least 30

A woman detonated her explosive belt in a market east of the Shi’ite holy city of Kerbala on Friday, killing at least 30 and wounding 35, Iraqi security sources said.

Islamic State claimed the attack in the town of Musayab, south of Baghdad, in a statement on its Amaq news agency. It didn’t the bomber.

A security officer said the assailant was a woman who hid the bomb under the customary full-body veil.

The attack comes as Islamic State is about to lose Mosul, the de-facto capital of the hardline Sunni Muslim group in Iraq, to a U.S.-backed Iraqi offensive launched in October.

The group is also on the backfoot in neighboring Syria, retreating in the face of a U.S.-backed Kurdish-led coalition attacking its capital there, Raqqa…

Game of Thrones Season 7 to Have Show’s Longest Episode Ever

The finale is expected to run about an hour and a half long

Here are some more details on the Game of Thrones season 7 episode lengths.

The finale will be the show’s longest-ever, clocking in at nearly an hour and a half, while another episode will be show’s shortest ever.

“We have two episodes over 60 minutes this year,” showrunner Dan Weiss told EW.

“One will be our longest episode ever — it’s coming in around 90 minutes,” added showrunner David Benioff. “Another is going to be our shortest episode at 50 minutes.”

The previous longest episode in the saga was the season 6 finale, “The Winds of Winter,” which ran 69 minutes. While the new season contains the shortest episode, there have been at least a couple previous episodes at the 51-minute mark, so it’s only the shortest by seconds…

#F1 Lewis Hamilton is ready to QUIT if Liberty Media continue with plans of a 25-race season

LEWIS Hamilton is ready to quit Formula One — if the sport’s new owners press ahead with plans for a 25-race season.

This year, 20 races will be held across the globe from March until November but Liberty Media are keen to add to the calendar, The Sun reports.

That would put a massive strain on teams, media and drivers — not something Hamilton is willing to accept.

After hearing McLaren’s two-time world champion, Fernando Alonso, threatened his resignation should there be more races, Hamilton was asked if he too would quit.

He said: “I understand everything Fernando is saying and I tend to agree with him.”

Alonso will return to race in this weekend’s Canadian GP after skipping Monaco to race in the Indy 500.

But said he would not wanted to race in F1 should there be more races — the previous highest number for a season being 21, which was last year.

He said: “I started when the calendar was 16 races, plus the tests, and now we keep increasing the races year after year…

Former Eagles footy manager to face ice trial in November

THE former manager of a handful of West Coast premiership stars will go on trial later this year on allegations he and another man were caught with ice valued at $1 million during a routine traffic stop.

Angie Papadopoulos, 58, who once guided the careers of West Coast Eagles legends Glen Jakovich, Dean Kemp and Fraser Gehrig, appeared in court with Anthony La Bianca, 61, to have a trial date fixed.

Both men have denied charges of possessing methylamphetamine with intent to sell or supply, which were laid in July last year.

A previous court hearing was told the pair was in a Toyota LandCruiser being driven by Mr La Bianca when it was pulled over by detectives on Mitchell Freeway.

Police will allege a green canvas shopping bag containing just under 1kg of the drug was found in the footwell of the car’s passenger seat. The court was told the drugs had an estimated street value of $1 million.

District Court chief Judge Kevin Sleight was told the trial is due to last five days. The hearing was set down for November.

Man jailed for 35 years in Thailand for insulting monarchy on Facebook

A Thai man has been jailed for 35 years for Facebook posts deemed insulting to the royal family, a watchdog said, in one of the harshest sentences handed down for a crime that insulates Thailand’s ultra-rich monarchy from criticism.

A Bangkok military court convicted him of 10 counts of lese-majesty for posting photos and videos of the royal family on a Facebook account that purported to belong to a different user.

Wichai, 34, whose last name was withheld to protect his relatives from ostracism, was accused of using the account to slander a former friend, said iLaw, a group that tracks royal defamation cases.

“The court punished him with seven years per count. Altogether he was given 70 years, but it was reduced in half because he confessed,” said Yingcheep Atchanont from iLaw…
