Jarrod Mullen breaks silence on drug use: ‘It ruined my life’

NEWCASTLE Knights star Jarrod Mullen has broken his silence on the drugs suspension that has effectively ended his NRL career.

The former NSW halfback copped a four-year suspension in May for being injected with a banned substance — the steroid Drostanolonein — in a bid to recover from a hamstring injury.

In a tell-all interview to air on Seven News tonight at 6pm, the 30-year-old Novocastrian says a physiotherapist he trusted from outside the Knights was responsible for the bungle that has “ruined his life”.

“I trusted the bloke. I’d known him for 10 years — he tossed up an amino acid injection to help with the healing,” Mullen said.

“After the injection I tore my hamstring two weeks later so whatever was supposed to go in there didn’t work anyway.”

However, Mullen says he accepts full responsibility for what happened, refusing to name the physio despite the possibility of having his ban reduced from four to two years for doing so.
