Israel test proves missiles can be hidden on cargo ships

CONTAINER ships crowding the world’s oceans may soon be carrying more than trade goods. Israel has just tested a new missile system designed to fit within a standard shipping container.

Earlier this week, Israel ‘s state-run Aerospace Industries (IAI) announced it had successfully tested a ‘Long-Range Artillery’ (LORA) missile system from a shipping container attached to a truck parked on the deck of a cargo ship.

It revives a concept exploited by Germany in World War I where commercial freighters were converted to conceal arrays of guns and mines. These innocent-looking vessels would then approach and seize Allied merchant shipping.
