Has Skype been hacked? Having trouble using Skype? You’re definitely not alone

Having trouble using Skype? You’re definitely not alone.

The popular video chat platform is experiencing a global outage following recent updates by Microsoft.

Problems arose yesterday and are ongoing, according to the platform.

Skype has issued a statement claiming it is aware of the incident where users have lost connectivity to the application and can’t send or receive messages.

“Some users will be unable to see a black bar that indicates them that a group call is ongoing, and longer delays in adding users to their buddy list,” the statement read.

Majority of the issues are reportedly concentrated in the UK and across Europe.

It is unclear what caused the outage though many reports are asking whether Skye has been hacked following claims that a group of cyber criminals is behind the incident.

This has not been confirmed by Microsoft.

While CNET suggests that a DDoS attack might be to blame.

The hashtag #SkypeDown was trending on Twitter.
