RAF fighters intercept a flight from Bucharest and escort it to Birmingham after ‘it lost communication’

RAF fighter jets were scrambled to intercept a flight from Bucharest and escort it to Birmingham after the plane lost all communications.

Typhoon fighter jets and a Voyager were deployed from Coningsby air base this morning to guide the 30-year-old civilian plane to safety.

The aircraft, a 30-seater Saab 340A, was met by RAF fighters over the North Sea before landing at Birmingham Airport.

The flight took off from Bucharest during the night at 1.30am local time and landed at 7.28am at Birmingham Airport, according to flight tracking data.
