Moomba festival descends into chaos after 2016 Apex riot

More than 50 people have been arrested as Melbourne’s Moomba festival descended into chaos for the second year running.

About 100 young troublemakers, mostly males, came to the city looking to start a fight on Saturday night, police said.

Officers were forced to deploy pepper spray as organised brawls broke out in front of horrified families at the community event.

Police seized weapons including knives, scissors, a taser and a knuckle duster after conducting more than 800 searches.
