Geri Halliwell cries over late friend George Michael

The 44-year-old singer was overcome with emotion when she appeared on Thursday’s installment of This Morning, tearing up as she discussed her close bond with the late star.

She welcomed baby son Montague George Hector with her husband Christian Horner in January, taking inspiration for his second name from her late friend George Michael.

And Geri Horner, née Halliwell, was overcome with emotion when she appeared on Thursday’s installment of This Morning, tearing up as she discussed her close bond with the Wham! singer, who tragically passed away on Christmas Day.

The 44-year-old singer was full of praises for the ‘generous’ superstar, who took her under his wing and acted a mentor figure to her.

Geri explained that she wasn’t sure about naming her son after George, but felt like it was a fitting way to honour her friend’s unexpected passing.

‘It’s very sad. It was my mother’s idea to call Monty “George” – she loved his family – at first I thought, “Is it appropriate?”… but why not.’

The Freedom singer was found dead at his home in Goring, Oxfordshire, on December 25 last year, by boyfriend Fadi Fawaz.
