Northern Territory police hold grave fears for two people who tried to evade a police roadblock by jumping into the Mary River, a waterway known for its high crocodile numbers.
NT Police said they are seeking information from anyone on the whereabouts of 19-year-old Caitlyn Munnich and 25-year-old Raphael Woodhouse.
“Police had set up a random road block,” a NT Police spokeswoman said.
“When they tried to stop the car it evaded police.
“Police followed until the car pulled off into bush.
“The pair ran from the car and were seen running towards the river and they jumped in the river.”
The Mary River is said to be home to the highest concentration of crocodiles in the Top End.
Three other people were in the car at the time and are assisting police with their enquires.

Australian Will Power’s IndyCar championship hopes are alive after claiming victory in Pennsylvania for the second straight year.
Power held off Team Penske teammate Josef Newgarden to claim his third win of the season on Sunday, giving his title run a boost with three races left in the season.
He sits fifth in the standings after his victory at Pocono Raceway – 42 points behind leader Newgarden.
Power made all the right moves over the final few laps to cut off Newgarden and end the American’s bid for three straight victories, with Alexander Rossi third.
New Zealand veteran Scott Dixon maintained second in the championship with his sixth place, while fellow championship contenders Simon Pagenaud and Helio Castroneves finished fourth and seventh respectively.
Power, who also won on the road course at Indianapolis and the Texas Motor Speedway oval this season, rallied from a lap down to deny Newgarden.
“I just picked people off one by one,” said Power, who has 32 career victories – the ninth most in IndyCar history.
“Just be smart, You can never give up in IndyCar because you don’t know what can happen. We got our lap back and made it to the front.”
Power was slowed early in the race when he was forced to pit to repair a broken wing but masterfully protected the inside line to prevent Newgarden making the decisive pass in the final three laps.

Both directions of the motorway will be closed “for several hours” as fire crews work to extinguish the blaze, which is understood to be under control.
An exclusion zone, which encompasses a 1km radius around the crash site, has been established amid fears the truck was carrying a “volatile substance”, which police have since confirmed is hydrochloric acid.
Police have urged motorists to be mindful of delays and have encouraged nearby residents to stay indoors.

According to local media the 17-year-old passenger was arrested after he opened an emergency exit over the wing of the Copa Airlines Boeing 737 and jumped from the aircraft.
The plane, which took off in Panama City, was getting ready to taxi the runway when the boy forced open the exit.
He was tackled on the runway by airport employees and taken into police custody.
The boy, who is a US citizen, wasn’t injured.
A San Francisco International Airport spokesperson told ABC the passenger involved was detained by a construction crew working on the airfield before being handed over the police.
Authorities are interviewing other passengers who were on the flight.

Thing is, honesty is the last quality Littlefinger is known for.
With a black tapered handle and blood-red stone topping off a curved blade, the dagger ― sometimes called “catspaw” for its association with the assassin ― is a fairly wicked-looking instrument.
And the foreshadowing is strong with this one: HBO Nordic featured the weapon in a cheeky teaser for Season 7 alongside the words “be prepared” on its Facebook page. It was also featured prominently on Arya’s (Maisie Williams) hip in Season 7 promotional images for Entertainment Weekly, suggesting it’ll end up in her care.

A 6.7-magnitude earthquake off the southwestern coast of Turkey could cause a small tsunami in the area, European quake agency EMSC says, although Turkish officials said large waves were more likely than a tsunami.
“A small tsunami is confirmed. Avoid beaches in the area, but you are safe on higher grounds,” EMSC said on Twitter on Friday.
The US Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, which monitors tsunamis around the world, did not issue any alert.

AN English tourist’s leg was degloved in a horror yacht accident off the world-famous Whitehaven Beach.
RACQ CQ Rescue flew the tourist to Mackay Hospital late yesterday.
The 53-year-old woman, from Birmingham, England, was holidaying aboard a 24-metre tourist vessel in the Whitsundays when the accident happened and her leg is believed to have gotten caught in a rope.
An RACQ CQ Rescue crew spokesman said the woman was dragged along the deck of the boat, smashing into handrails and equipment, and suffered a serious degloving injury to her lower leg about 4.30pm.
She is in a stable condition.

British Prime Minister Theresa May’s Conservative Party risks falling short of winning an overall majority of seats in parliament in a national election on June 8, The Times newspaper said on Tuesday, quoting research by polling firm YouGov.
In contrast to signs from a string of opinion polls that have suggested May’s Conservatives will increase their majority, the new constituency-by-constituency modeling by YouGov showed it might lose 20 of the 330 seats it holds and the opposition Labour Party could gain nearly 30 seats, The Times said.

Video posted to social media Tuesday shows a Peruvian Airlines passenger jet on fire at Francisco Carle Airport in Jauja, Peru, located about 165 miles east of Lima.
The video, which was posted to Facebook, shows several workers tending to the plane as thick black smoke billows toward the sky.
All 141 passengers on board were evacuated from the plane; none were considerably injured, the airline said.
