Josh Kennedy fires late to lift West Coast Eagles past St Kilda by 19 points

COMETH the hour, cometh the man.

Josh Kennedy climbed from the canvas to underline his match-winning credentials last night, as West Coast survived an ambush from St Kilda at Domain Stadium.

The Eagles trailed for nearly the entire match, before scraping home thanks to a lift in intensity when it mattered most.

Having barely been sighted, with just three disposals across the first three quarters, Kennedy emerged as a giant figure mid-way through a pulsating final term to kick three late goals.

With the Eagles down by 13 points, he dragged down two big marks in the space of three minutes and kicked accurately both times.

Kennedy added his fourth for the match to all but seal the result with three minutes remaining as West Coast breathed a huge sigh of relief.

BREAKING: Palestinian man is shot by police after stabbing three Israelis in Jerusalem

A Palestinian youth has been shot dead after stabbing three people, including a police officer, in Jerusalem, authorities have confirmed.

Spokeswoman Luba Samri said the 17-year-old stabbed two Jewish men in the old city today before being chased by police.

He then stabbed one of the policemen before he was shot. Samri says the victims suffered light to moderate injuries.

ISIS’s second-in-command has been killed

ISIS’s deputy leader has been killed in air strike in Iraq, it emerged today.

Ayad al-Jumaili, was wiped out by the country’s air force along with other leaders of the terror group, in the region of al-Qaim, near the border with Syria.

Jumaili is believed to be second-in-command to leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Cyclone Debbie: Logan flooding now worse than 1974, body found in waters

Flooding in Logan brought on by ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie is the worst in the city’s history, Mayor Luke Smith says, with more than 250 homes expected to be inundated.

The body of a 77-year-old man has been pulled from floodwaters at Eagleby, south of Brisbane.

He was found by emergency crews about 3:50pm not far from where he was seen last seen on Friday at Eagleby Road.

It comes at Logan Mayor Luke Smith declares flooding in the area, brought on by ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie, as the worst in the area’s history.

Residents in some low-lying parts of the city, south of Brisbane, were told to consider leaving their homes today as flooding continued.

Thousands fled some areas in Logan, Beaudesert and the northern Gold Coast on Friday as the Albert and Logan rivers rose and inundated homes and businesses.

Today Cr Smith said 250 homes across Logan would experience inundation, but the severity would not be known until the Logan River receded.

“Logan has experienced the worst flooding it has ever experienced in the history of our city,” Cr Smith said.

“This is higher than 1974 and it’s more of an impact right across our city than we’ve ever seen.

BREAKING NEWS: Dozens feared dead as landslide hits homes in Indonesia

More than two dozen people have been reported missing after a rain-triggered landslide struck a village in Indonesia’s main Java island.

Up to 30 houses are feared buried, and rescuers believe that 38 people are currently missing.

Heavy rain is responsible for the landslide. Those missing are believed to have been harvesting ginger on the slopes of Banaran village in East Java.

Boko Haram kidnap 22 women and girls in Nigeria again

Boko Haram Islamists (file) abducted 22 girls and women on Thursday in two separate raids in northeast Nigeria, according to residents and vigilantes. Some of the girls were aged 17 or younger.

In the first attack on Thursday, the jihadists raided the village of Pulka near border with Cameroon where they kidnapped 18 girls.

‘Boko Haram fighters from Mamman Nur camp arrived in pickup vans around 6am and seized 14 young girls aged 17 and below while residents fled into the bush,’ a Pulka community leader told AFP by phone.

‘They picked four other girls who were fleeing the raid they came across in the bush outside the village,’ said the community leader who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals.

Apple wins Australian court ruling against banks to retain Apple Pay control

Apple has won a major legal battle that had pitted it against some of Australia’s largest banks and will likely mean the tech giant can retain full control of the use of its payment technology in the country. The Australian Competition Consumer Commission (ACCC) announced on Friday that it had rejected a request by four of the country’s largest banks to negotiate with Apple over mobile payments.

The National Australia Bank, Westpac, Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Bendigo and Adelaide Bank had been trying to negotiate with Apple to allow iPhone users to make payments from their own integrated digital wallets instead of through Apple Pay, without paying Apple fees.
